Early learning centres may have educators who wish to attend the ACA Qld conference more regularly than their service may be able to afford to send them. ACA Qld has taken accounting advice and suggests a “salary sacrifice” arrangement could be entered into with educators who wish to attend the conference but find the registration fee and accommodation charges slightly outside of their budget.
Educators could request their payroll officer arrange a salary sacrifice deduction from their weekly/fortnightly pay over, for example, an 8 month period prior to conference. The employer would retain these funds and register the educator for the conference. The employee would benefit from a tax saving on the conference costs and the centre benefits from more of their educators being able to attend the conference. Such an arrangement would fall under the “otherwise deductible” rules of the tax act.
